Rather than opting for a Danube river cruise, I developed the idea of seeing that part of Europe by train. Then, as usually happens, I got carried away with adding many other scenic train destinations.
Train travel in Europe is a way of life. Clean, fast, and frequent trains ferry passengers between major cities and the smallest of villages. Train stations are, for the most part, located in the center of town, with convenient hotels close by.
